ABOUT OUR MINISTRY
We are a recovery fellowship. Families have been reconciled, relationships mended and many other benefits as a result of regular attendance. The Serenity Addiction Ministry meets one hour every Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.

SERENITY RECOVERY PURPOSE
The purpose of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church’s Serenity Recovery is to celebrate God’s healing power in our lives through the 12 steps, New Testament, Psalms, Proverbs and the 8 Recovery Principles. This experience allows us to be changed. We open the door by sharing our experience, strengths and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God’s grace in solving our lives’ problems. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we began to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behavior. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program, we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power – Jesus Christ.

MEMBERSHIP
Serenity Recovery is a free program, open to anyone in recovery or has a family member who is dealing with an addiction.

SERENITY PRAYER
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time. Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; Taking as Jesus did this sinful world as it is; Not as I would have it; Trusting in Jesus that He will make things right if I surrender His your will; So that I may be reasonably happy with Him forever in the next. Amen

STEPS FOR SERENITY GROUP– For Christians
We embark on recovery as a means of seeking freedom from any one or more of a number of addictive agents. Addictive agents are those persons or things on which we form an excessive dependency. The catalog of addictive agents includes:
  1. alcohol or drugs
  2. work, achievement and success
  3. money addiction, such as overspending, gambling, hoarding
  4. control addictions, (possessive – especially if they surface in personal, family and business relationships)
  5. food addiction
  6. sexual addiction
  7. approval dependency (the need to please people)
  8. rescuing patterns towards other persons
  9. dependency on toxic relationships (damaging and hurtful to others)
  10. physical illness
  11. exercise and physical conditioning
  12. cosmetics, clothes, cosmetic surgery, (trying to look good on the outside)
  13. materialism
  14. general perfectionism
Most of us can see ourselves somewhere in this list. All of us can benefit from the truths that emerge from the Twelve Step Recovery, because all of us are, to some degree, codependent. What does this mean? We define codependency as being an effort to control interior feelings by manipulating people, things, and events on the outside. Much of the need to do this arises from our own childhood – from experiences we have had in our families of origin. Perhaps our most basic needs for love and nurturing were not met in those early family encounters. Or overzealous caretakers who did not allow us to mature emotionally spiritually and mentally may have smothered us. Such dysfunctional families, whether they involve open or veiled abuse, may be the original source of our codependent pain. This early codependent vacuum becomes the root of our latter adult addictions.

There are healing solutions to our dependencies. Both the Twelve Steps and the Bible speak to the human hunger and neediness that result from codependency. To appreciate the biblical foundations of the Twelve Steps, come and view with us the history of this approach to healing.

Women

Leader: Sister Emma Harrision Leader: Sister Kay Simmons
Leaders: Sister Emma Harrison and Sister Kay Simmons

BASIC DESCRIPTION
The leader of the Women Ministry is responsible to the Spiritual Enrichment Ministry Leader for leading the women of the church in mentoring and ministering to the unique spiritual and emotional needs of the women of the church.

RESPONSIBLITES
Determines the level of organization required to mentor and minister effectively to the women of the church. Assists the Pastor, Spiritual Enrichment Leader and Teaching Ministry personnel in helping the church body to understand and relate to the unique needs and role of women.

Are You The Chosen Woman?

God chooses leaders. He chose Pastor Clarke for this season for the Grove Zone. Only God knows our true needs and exactly how to satisfy them. He demands that we have faith in Him, trust Him, and obey His commands.

God’s Commands don’t always come from the Ten Commandments. He commands each of us individually. Once we understand how to discern His voice and obey His individual commands for our lives, we’ll be well on the way to success.

Now, if this is an article about being the chosen woman, why does it begin with the first two paragraphs? Glad you asked! The reason is that until you know God’s voice, you won’t know that you’re the chosen one for God’s call.

Everyone is asking, “What is the Women’s Ministry doing?” God is calling for the women of Union Grove to unite to meet the needs of other women in the church. God has called me to lead the Women’s Ministry during this season of reflection and meditation. His word to me has been constant, “WAIT”.

It takes much patience and even more faith to trust God while you wait. You’ve heard it said that we’re a microwave nation and church. We want to move and we want to move quickly. I can attest, however, that I’ve heard His voice. I know I’m the chosen one for this season of waiting.

What does God want from us? First, He wants a commitment. He wants a commitment, not to the Pastor, not to the leader of the Women’s Ministry or Spiritual Enrichment Ministry, not to the traditions of the past, but He wants a commitment to, “I Am”.

Remember when God referred to Himself in the Bible as, “I Am”? He wants you reminded of that as you read this prophetic article. This is God’s call to many of you. To others of you, it’s merely a confirmation of His call.

As I’ve been meditating on what the Lord wants in the Women’s Ministry, I know He is not calling us to have regular meetings, just for the sake of having a meeting. He has a much bigger objective, thus, the reason for the commitment to Himself. Following the commitment, secondly, God then wants you to hear His voice.

There’s nothing for you to do to hear His voice, except to humble yourself before Him, let Him cleanse your heart, and open your spirit to receive. Then, when He speaks, you need to, thirdly, obey His individual command to you.

Once you’ve accomplished this, you’ll be in a position to move when God speaks what He desires for the Women’s Ministry. The vision He’s given me will be revealed following prayer, meditation, and discussion and direction from the Pastor. Stay tuned!
